The Story of a Restoration: How Sar-e Qabr Agha Came Back to Life

The restoration of the historic Sar-e Qabr Agha building was a long and challenging project undertaken with the goal of faithfully reviving the original elements of Qajar architecture. Before any intervention, the restoration team carefully documented and studied the building's structure — from the foundation to the tilework and wooden ornamentation — so that later work would cause the least possible harm to its authenticity. In many areas, traditional materials and techniques consistent with the building's original era were used, from hand-laid brickwork to tiles recreated with authentic methods. Beyond reviving the physical structure, the project also created new spaces for cultural, tourism, and economic activity, from traditional stalls to venues for events.
